Hello Hobie Community! I just bought my first Hobie and had fun sailing a few times, but last time I had to bring in my boat at low tide and I think the sand took a toll on my older boat! My last outing I noticed that I was taking on water, and considerable amounts of it. The instructions I have found until now all seem to require I have inside hull access and I am not really sure what to do. Thanks! |

I searched for more information and that article in hotline was good, but i'm still wondering if I can just remove the damaged part and fiberglass over the crack, or if I need to get inside access to the hull to make a backing and really fill it in. My Hobie is quite old and there are no access ports on it to get inside the hull. In the article for repairing holes it states that there will be an This Old Hobie article on how to make "blind" repairs but I don't think it came to realization. So if I understand the information I read correctly I would need to start by grinding/randing/cutting the "lighter" fiberglass parts as they are damaged, then I would really be able to see what kind of damage I am dealing with. |

The basic bottom job is simple stacking of layers of cloth on the keel. The crack / hole requires a bit wider strip (4" or so) to connect the inboard and outboard surfaces... and then a stack of cloth strips to thicken the keel. You need to remove gel coat where ever you are going to laminate the new glass to. No access to the inside is required. |
