 Post subject: REPEAR FOR FIBERGLASS

I HAVE A NEAT 12FT. CAT ALL GLASS I,AM BRINGING BACK FROM THE DEAD. BEEN MAKEING EVERYTHING FROM LOWES AND A FEW THINGS HOBIE .AND USED PARTS OFF MY HOBIE 16. MY QUESTION IS CAN I PUT GEL COAT OVER WOOD OR DO I HAVE TO GLASS IT FIRST .

I'm pretty sure that gelcoat is basically colored polyester resin. So if that's the case, the gelcoat would stick to anything that resin would stick to.

And polyester resin doesn't stick to wood particularly well in a wet environment. It tends to delaminate.

There are better finishes for wood. Like epoxy.
