Today, I purchased an almost new Hobie Bravo. One of the screws on the mast base plate is sticking out. I removed the screw and cleaned out the hole but the screw still bottoms out prematurely. Do I simply add a washer or two to make up the difference or go through the trouble of delicately drilling a deeper hole to accommodate the screw? |

Figure out what it's bottoming out on and try to find out how it got there. Then, determine if it will jack anything up when you remove it. |

Maybe pull out one of the others and compare the length, to see if a longer screw was accidently used in that spot. |

I removed all 4 screws and they're all the same size and all the holes are of equal depth. I cleaned out the threads & holes but still no go. I can only assume that the brass insert was not threaded properly all the way down. I ended up using double lock washers to make up the gap. Perhaps one day I'll chase down the hole with a tap. ...oops...hope the one lock washer is stainless....it appears to have a different colour/sheen to it.... |
