Looking for some advice: I've got an 81 Hobie 14 in good to excellent shape, but the hulls definitely need some attention. I purchased this boat a few months ago, and have since refinished the tramp frame, installed a new tramp, new stays, and a few other minor repairs. Now it is time to tackle the hulls.

They are clearly oxidized, and I know that buffing and polishing will help with that. There are no cracks, no delam, no holes or gouges (luckily) that I can see. The previous owner installed pinstriping on the decks and at the waterline which I started removing only to find that the original glossy finish underneath greatly contrasts with the older oxidized finish where the gelcoat was exposed to the elements. There is even a slight ridge if you run your fingernail over the area.

Since I have never attempted to buff a finish like this, I am looking for sound advice on what type of compounds to purchase, and what type of equipment to use. *Web Links Would Be Awesome!*

I can disassemble the boat again quite easily so getting to all sides of the hull will be easy. I am hoping for some specific info based on your experiences that I can take going into this project.

I know there will be a lot of elbow grease involved and am ready for a challenge!

Thanks Folks!
Justin
