My Hobie/Holder 14 flipped and during getting it upright the top part of the 2 piece mast broke as it was stuck in mud. It basically broke clean. In the top part I have an opening, in the bottom/main part it is the plug that is remaining. Not sure if it's possible to extract that. I was planning to put a splint inside and join the mast pieces back together. Open to any and all suggestions, including recommending a repair facility in the Vancouver/Lower Mainland area. Thank you. will check that out. I haven't figured out yet how to clean out the main part. I.e. it's filled with foam, encased with fibreglass? Have been pondering to try and drill it out but can't decide how yet, or how far down I'll have to, or should go. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. |

Getting the stump out of the aluminum section? Dig out the foam, cut the fiberglass from the inside-out towards the aluminum and then fracture / collapse the fiberglass part in and away from the aluminum. Grind / sand the remaining glass and resin. |

Thank you Matt. Is the foam only the length of the stump? I.e. is there a danger to dig too far? |

Thanks again Matt. Guess I'll have to attempt a repair. Vancouver Hobie dealer is closing down and next closest seems to be Calgary. I'm going to try to splint with a piece of rigid plastic pipe ( 1 3/4" rigid non-metal electrical conduit ). I'm contemplating a fibreglass wrap to get the right fit and assembling before it cures or alternatively using cold curing epoxy to fill around the pipe. More alternatives would be greatly appreciated if I'm on the wrong track. |

Well, since I didn't have much luck to find a dealer I did attempt repair. It's holding but a bit wobbly. Untested sofar as we're having a late summer, no wind. I'm a bit pessimistic though so I thought I'd try again to find a CompTip for the Holder 14. Any suggestions re a dealer that would ship will be much appreciated. Have an email off to Calgary dealer, but since they didn't answer previously.... Oh well, at least it "looks" better  Langley. BC |

Thanks Matt. Awaiting reply to email. In the meantime I've been pondering alternatives and one pondering is to add additional stays, sides and fore, half way up the tip. Bad idea or doable? Heinz |
