This spring, I did a bottom job on my boat and just sprayed gelcoat to the repair area. I have beige hulls, so was not able to get a perfect colour match. Since sailing season creeped up on me, I decided to wait until this coming winter to spray the entire hulls one single colour. I was tempted to go white, because that's the colour it usually comes in, but then saw a video on Youtube of a cat with black hulls, and I'm considering that colour.

My boat sits outside from June to September and in the sun half the day. Since black attracts heat more than white, can that have a negative effect?

Note that the average daily high is in the mid 20s Celsius and we maybe get a week or two of mid 30s celcius. I think that works out to 80s and 90s in Fahrenheit.

I love black. Black cars, black bikes and black boats especially have to be the prettiest thing on the water. But next to red, black is one of the quickest colors to oxidize. If you keep after them with wax several times a year they will stay beautiful. If you get lazy they will get chaulky and grey in short order. As far as the heat effect i think the biggest concern would be if there is any trapped moisture in the hulls the excess heat could cause it to "steam" and lead to delaim.

White it is. I am not a fan of waxing. I have a black truck and have given up on keeping it clean. I think the last time I washed and waxed my truck was in August 2010.

I just wanted a colour that was at either extreme of the spectrum as they are easier to match than anything in the middle. I'll just stick to white gelcoat as it comes in the can, no pigments added.

black would look pretty bad ass with the Keoke sails though

Yeah, I know. But I like low maintenance. Also, my sails don't have many years left in them, so who knows what I'll end up with.
