| Post subject: | How to drill out rivets with casings |
Nothing comes up in the search. Thought it would be similar, but the head comes off only to show the casing. Do I need a size up drill bit to cut the casing corner off? FYI its the SX wing rivets. Thanks. |

1) Knock the rivet head(s) off (1/4" bit) 2) Remove what the rivet(s) was/were holding together 3) Knock the flange off the casing(s) (1/4" bit - gently - it's soft) 4) Drive the tail through with a 3/16" punch 5) Beer |

OK, I wasn't daring enough to use the 1/4" and stop soon enough. Then I used a mallet- not hard enough. Need hammer. All is good. BTW, my castings were installed outside of what the rivet was holding together. I think thats wrong? |

As long as it achieves that goal, I suppose it really doesn't matter where the flange if the casing is.I have always put the flange flat against the mast extrusion before installing the tang / strap / whatever to the mast. |

Agreed, what you say seems more correct, but for some reason the rivets weren't fitting in that way. Only when I placed the casing on the outside of what was being riveted did it all fit. Oh well, It was watertight. |
