I recently used West Marine Penetrating Epoxy to fix a delamination on my port hull. I've used it before on the starboard hull and that repair is hard as a rock now, so I know the West Marine stuff works. For the port hull repair I mixed the entire contents of both the resin and hardener (which is the mix ratio) and mixed vigorously for over a minute. I gave it two days, used some filler and gelcoat to finish the repair. The problem is, during the middle of the day when its warmest the repair still has give, but in the evening or on cool, rainy days, the repair area is hard as a rock. Also, on two of the filled injection holes, a brownish liquid is seeping through the gelcoat. So... WTF is happening? What did I do wrong? and... Does anyone know a way to fix what I F'd up? |

Delam repairs require the internal area to be completely dry before injecting the epoxy. Best way to do that is sit the area in the sun for a day or two after drilling the holes. I don't know of a good way to fix it once you've done the injection. |

Its only the tiniest amount of liquid, but it smears and is oily the best I can tell. --- So you think the delam is going to spread then? |
