Because one of the cables from the hull to the mast has broken, I am replacing all cables.
2x side of hulls to top mast
2x short cables from front of hulls to 1 jib cable
1x cable from the short ones to top of mast (also used for jib)
I'm not sure of the correct names of all cables. Are these all called shrouds?

I just bought 3 mm steelcable at the local store. I will make these at the correct length and will make small loops at both ends. The current cables were 2 mm.
This will do the job. Right ?

You need the right swedge pressing tools to make the loops.

If you don't have the right tools or know how to make this rigging, you are asking for trouble trying to make it yourself. The standing rigging is critical for ensuring that you make it back to the beach at the end of the day and that you make it back safely. In the best case, dismasting means an hour or two of inconvenience getting towed to the beach. In the worst case, your boat gets damaged and/or someone gets injured by the falling rig.

Steel cable is the wrong material to use for marine rigging - it should be stainless steel. Minimum wire spec for a Hobie 16 is 1x19, 1/8" diameter stainless cable.

All the Hobie 16 cables can be bought for less than 200 bucks and with care will last for years of carefree sailing. Making your own is asking for trouble De masting a Hobie could be dangerous to captain and crew and could also damage the boat
I keep the old cables as emergency spares in the hobie hell box
