I am concerned about a crack that is on the edge of my hull's deck near the rear pylon as to whether it is cosmetic or structural. I am not sure exactly how old the hull is but the other hull is from 1982.

It has been there for a few years. I have ground a "v" in it's gelcoat and re-filled it several times but it keeps coming back.

Quote:
For the hairline cracks on the edge of the hull, you can scrape them out using a can opener and fill with gelcoat, but they will probably return. The problem is that since the gelcoat is not reinforced, as the flange flexes, the gelcoat just cracks. These cracks are very common on older (and some newer) boats.

Based on the cross section photo, I am concerned that it is structural and whether I should sand it down and add a few layers of fiberglass over it?

Impact on the rail can flex and crack the gelcoat. This is not a typical area for any real problem with structure.
