It's pretty easy to attach any 2 bolt mount with a threaded backing plate anywhere you desire on the hull with no need to be near any hatches or openings. You only need a couple washers and two pieces of fishing line. It's super simple just drill two holes say in the gunwale to mount a cleat, fish the line into each hole and snag the line and direct it to the nearest opening. Now run the line thru the two threaded holes then tie the washers to the ends if the lines. Now smear a blob of silicone on the inner surface of the plate, then pull the strings back thru the holes and pull the plate tight against the underside of the hull. If you hold one line tight you can snip the other one and thread a bolt onto the hole, tighten it then snip the other line and put a bolt in that one. Once the silicone sets up the plate shouldn't fall off too easily but it will of course be delicate ( the silicone doesn't hold all that well). It's all easily done and shouldn't take much longer than any other method. Hope this helps FE
