I have an old problem and I'm looking for a new solution. I have a crack in my 2009 Outback hull. Since the thing is way out of warranty, I'm looking at a solution to fix the problem. Believe it to not this is a replacement hull after my 2004 developed a huge crack and was covered under warranty. Yea.... I can't win the lottery but I can get two consecutive Outbacks susceptible to hull cracks around the drive system. I've read the instructions from Hobie and I think I can weld it but I'm afraid its just going to happen again due to the location under the pedal drive. Many Years ago, I thought I read something about some kind of reinforcement kit but I can't find anything on it. Any tips on repair would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Ok, I've done some research on the DP 8010 and other fixes and I'm a little fuzzy on how the DP 8010 should be applied. Do I just apply the DP 8010 to the crack(inside and out) or do I glue another price of plastic over the crack?

My thought was to have a certified plastic welder weld a strip of kayak material to the bottom over the crack like a band aid then use some DP 8010 where ever you think it would do the most good.

Please advise

Weld backed by the DP product inside seems like an option. The welders now come with some stainless screen mesh to weld into repairs for support.

Any Idea where I might find a welder that comes with the stainless steel mesh or better yet, just the stainless steel mesh?

Also is there some way I can purchase a sheet or a strip of kayak material that matches my kayak. Thinking a 5"x 5" x 1/4" cut to fit would be better than using a bunch of rods that may or may not match the kayak color and material.

I apologize for the hassle. I'm just trying fix this the best I can so I don't get killed striper fishing off the Jersey Coast in December when the crack reappears in my kayak because I didn't fix it properly.

Thanks

The KC Welder Pro kit has mesh and rod stock. Your dealer can ask for "cut outs" that are from hatch installations in matching color.

I have one more question....

What is that white button on the bottom of the kayak?

Thanks

Fills a threaded hole in a molded-in brass fitting. Likely the accessory receiver or MirageDrive reinforcement fittings. The fittings are attached to the mold and then released when the hull is in the cooling stage. The cap is purely cosmetic.
