Hi,

Last fall when coming to shore I was unable to lift the rudder before I hit the beach in CT. The entire lower gudgeon tore off, complete with glass and metal plate, leaving just a thin layer with 4 holes between outside and inside of hull. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

I spent 3 hours on the forum last night. Great resource! I wish I had done so before, because I would have upgraded the rudder system of my hobie 83.

thanks

This is an old post but I just found it and the situation was very familiar! The exact same thing happened to me 5 years ago. I went to the upgraded rudder system after that.

If you never make beach landings and never plan on hitting anything in the water you can skip the upgrade on your pre-1987 H18, otherwise it's a good investment.
