Greetings.

Just purchased a used project... a 1974 Hobie Monohull. And it needs help... unfortunately, I am having little success in discovering any info on this - parts, setup, etc. I do have the original manual that came with the thing, but it is of little use.

Any advice?

Really? I am hoping so much that everyone is sailing and not taking note of my little post here... and really hoping that someone somewhere will maybe have some info to help me out with my little mono-hull.... or maybe I picked up a pink elephant boat. And, really, that is not out of the realm of possibility here.

Safe, happy, joyous sailing to all. I'm going back out on my boat now, too (NOT the Mono-hull!)

Are you talking about a Hobie Holder? Came in 12 and 14 length. Or a Hobie Monocat? Without pictures and/or dimensions it's hard to say exactly what you have, and therefore where you need to go. There are actually several different monohulls.

On this page -- https://www.hobie.com/support/ -- if you scroll down you'll come to the discontinued models and might be able to identify it through its assembly manual.

1974 would have been the Hobie "moncat." The Holders didn't come around until somewhere around the mid-80's.

And yes, the moncat is something of a white elephant. Not many of them made and they had a significant defect in that the foam hull would absorb water and become extremely heavy. So likely you're on your own to figure out the boat.

You're right about that foam defect... and it is, indeed, the mono-hull... and it's now my pink-elephant boat. I'm going to try to donate it, but not certain whether that would really be doing anyone any favor.

Thanks for the help.

It's the MonoCAT, right? Like an old version of the current Hobie Bravo? 2 cat-style hulls, about 4' apart, with a hard deck, a dagger board and a single rudder.
Yeah, if yours isn't saturated, you've got a gem!
If the foam is saturated (weighs a ridiculous amount for a small boat), there's not much to be done. People have tried various ways to extract moisture from the foam, including de-skinning the boat. It'll still sail pretty well. Just weighs a ton.
I had one, I bought it for my then 12 year old son who lived near a nice little lake. His mom would trailer it to the lake for him, and he had a blast with it. I taught him to sail on the 17 that I owned at that time, but did take him out on the Monocat half a dozen times before I would let him solo it. I made him get good at righting it by himself. It was a good boat for a couple of kids, and pretty fun to sail by myself.
