Just purchased a used Hobie Cat and curious if anyone can help with model determination for the purpose of buying replacement parts.

Vin is CCMNOO54M75J, I believe this is a 1975 model. It is white in color and the rudders are wood, perhaps a mahogany plywood type? Rudder hardware seems different that the current Hobie 14 but there is a locking mechanism that has failed which had a plastic ball, the rest was too corroded to tell and completely missing on one side. I'm hoping the current Hobie 14 rudder locking kit could work? Missing some parts but seems the rudders are a place to start.

Thanks!

Yes, 1975. My records say Hobie 11 based on the "N", but maybe a 13' Hobie 3.5? Also, wooden rudders would make sense.

The HOBIE 3.5 is based on the HOBIE 14 but designed for kids weighing less than 140 lbs. The hulls appear to be the same as the HOBIE 14, with other parts shared with the MONOCAT 12, including rudders, mast and mast step. The boat had wooden rudders with a different rudder casting locking system. It was also considerably narrower which, in theory, allowed easier righting after a capsize.

If a 3.5... we have no parts. Discontinued in the 70's.

Thanks Matt,

Would you know the bolt size/ dimension of the Hobie 14 rudder locking kit? I'm guessing it might fit on the 3.5 which is 9/16" -18. That is critical part for me, think I could work with the rest of it.

Thanks,

The spring adjuster screw is now larger; 3/4" - 10

You should be able to find something at the size you need.
