I inherited what appears to be a Hobie or Arriba fiberglass Hotstick. The fiberglass is definitely "fuzzy", to the point I don't even want to touch it to move it to my Hobie 14, much less sail with it. The rubber handle (~6") still seems good enough. I found a few posts about ways to "repair" the issue, and I'm interested in what has been successful recently. Using a fiberglass coating kit isn't of much interest. Using a rubber cover is the most appealing if I can figure the best option. There was a suggestion to use a 700-20, 25 (or maybe 28) road bike tube. That would be the preferred option...it's cheap and hopefully easy to slip on. Has that worked for anyone? I've also started checking bike handle covers. They look promising, but are expensive and use NPVC, which is not great for outdoor use (just like the bike tubes). And the typical size is ~1" ID, so tough to fit over a length of 1.125" fiberglass Hotstick. Anyone had success with these? The next (maybe last) option is EPDM grips, which would be more weather resistant. Seems hard to find those (Battlelon RG16EPDM, for example), and they are pretty expensive. But, again, anyone had success there?
