Does anyone know the sail area of the Getaway "furling jib" and the sail area of a Hobie 16 "furling jib"?
Is there any difference between the two?
Everything I find on the getaway only shows the total sail area, it does not show the jib size. I also cannot find the sail area for the h16 furling jib.

Thanks, John G.

H16 Race jibs are 50 ish square feet according to an old chart I found.

There is no measurement, that I have, of the Getwaway or rec (furling) 16 jib. I assume they are similar.

So putting a furling h16 jib on a getaway would not add any more sail area?

It may, but the problem is if the foot is too long there is no way to attach a block and jam cleat anywhere back of the xross bar.

This line is of interst to me becasue I have been given a pendel jib which is larger then my jib that came with the Getaway. It seems to work fairly well though it is old and starting to rip so am wanting to replace it. We have used the standard cleats for it most of the time occasionaly find tieing it off to the wing supports works better. Obviously need to figure out a better way so will be watching to see if anyone has a better solution. I must add that the Getaway does sail better in light winds with the larger jib.

Someone suggested running a s.s wire under the tramp under the the two holes in the tramp, anchor the wire to the hull on both sides. You could then hook up a block to the wire under the tramp. The 14 turbo has an arrangement exactly like this. That should work to control a larger jib.
