Post subject:  My Getaway is no more...

Yesterday a super cell ripped through the Bay in St. Albans Vt., destroying several camps, uprooting huge maple trees, and capsizing several boats. I got a call about an hour after the storm passed from my sister, who told me my boat was missing from her beach, and that parts of it were strewn all over. I asked if everyone was ok but she didn't know since she and her husband were not there when it happened. My sister got the news from her neighbor who called her on her cell phone. So we all went down to see what happened.

As I got to the road to the camp, it was blocked off by a huge maple tree. The tree was lying into a shed which was totally destroyed, just missing a small camp. (side note: After, I got to talk to the lady who owned the camp, she told me she had just cleaned the shed hours before the storm. She laughed.) My wife and I had to walk down the beach side to get to the camp. We passed several camps on the way, most with little or no damage. Several trees were broken or uprooted, these were not small trees either. Most were 3' or more in diamater. We finally reached my sisters' camp. Sure enough, the Getaway was missing. We found it about 100 yards down the beach under a dock. It was still floating! But that was about the only good thing. It looked like it was hit by a train. Not one thing survived intact, everything from the tramps to the mast were destroyed. One of the hulls had a big dent with dark red paint on it. The paint came from the neighbors camp several hundred feet away. The mast was broken in 3 pieces.

I am going to go take some pictures today, and help everyone with cleanup. Maybe I will be able to post them. Someone was looking out for us because no one was hurt in the area. We were all very lucky.

Scott.

Wow man, glad to hear everyone is okay but sorry to hear about the boat! I hope it's insured!

Warm regards,

Jim
