Gday from downunder! Tasmania to be exact! Yep, still the only Getaway owner down here in the good old apple isle. Summer has arrived and so have the awesome seabreazes.Sorry to hear its winter over there but its our turn in the southern hemisphere to have some warmth!
About to start my commercial fully skippered guided tours with my getaway, its been a very popular boat with the tourists and probably the best thing I ever bought! Still racing it and doing quite well too. Recently had a big regatta down here in strahan and finished 4th overall.Good result considering the wind was extremely light.Had the wind been stronger we would have absolutely smoked the fleet! My getaway is set up for racing without the useless wings and should not be underestimated as a 16 foot race boat, done in style and comfort too.
bye for now!
Tasmanias only getaway sailor!

I resent the word "useless" when it comes to the wings, I am 58 and the wings were a big plus for me when I bought the boat. They are so comfortable when sailing in light winds, I don't race so I don't care to go out on the wire. The only downside to the wings is their tendency to get buried under water on the leeward side and slow the boat down. When I am trying to recruit new Hobie sailors they love the seats.

Hey Roy,

Sorry, I can't add any recent sailing stories (maybe a winter-storage tip, but that's boring). Also minus 30 here, as we live in the same city.

Where do you sail? I have a 07 Getaway that I bought last winter. Sailed last summer at Diefenbaker Lake - a blast, but sometimes scary with the waves. Tried Blackstrap too - much faster cause the waves were small, but had to tack/jibe every couple of minutes or I would have ended up on shore.

I know of two other Getaways in the area. One fellow I know sails his out at Emma Lake. There's also one at the Blackstrap Sailing Club (perhaps it's yours?).

It would be fun to race sometime.

When I had my 16 I used to go to both blackstrap and redberry lake. We purchased a cabin at Crystal lake (just north of Yorkton) so my getaway is there all year round. It would be kind of neat to get a few getaways together to race. Maybe have to talk to James at Ebs this spring.
