Matt,

Will the Electric motor kit work on a getaway???? I'm looking for a cost effective way to mount a motor to the boat just enought to get away, no pun intended from the ramp and docks etc... Gas engine is really not what I'm looking for. Too much $$$... Also, if it will fit to the Getaway, will the batter box be able to be placed in the stbd hull????? Plus the quick disconnect is something I like... Please email me with any details at [email protected]

The Wave version of the electric motor kit is no longer offered. The company that made the hatch and holder set up quit doing it. The one shown for a 16 will not work because the Getaway frame is lower to the water. I am wondering if the battery will fit in the "cooler" of the Getaway? I have not tried that. You could get fittings for the power from a marine hardware store.

It sure would be nice to have an electric motor kit for the Getaway. This is the perfect boat for this (not a racing machine where you want to shave every extra ouce, but a social boat where you want to get back your guests back to the dock before dinner when the wind dies :) ).

I've been putting off the idea because of costs (especially the Cheeta bracket), but I keep hoping I could stuff a battery in a hull, and hang a small electric motor off that hull so that I can get back to the martini bar :)

For now, I tow (or strap under one wing) my son's Hobie Mirage Classic kayak so that we can return to the beach even if the wind peters out.

We use a couple of paddles to get about when the wind drops. They are about 4 foot long and we keep them secure when we are sailing by feeding them through a couple of the elastic straps under the wings. The paddles are out of the way there and we have even towed the boat home with the paddles still in place, so they dont dislodge too easy. Two people paddling with up to 6 on board works fine and you cover the ground really quickly.
