Wondering if there will be a discount on the Seabreeze sails since Hobie is redesigning for 2017. I think the main retails for about $1500 and the jib for about $350.

My boat is a 2002 with the blue/red/purple sails which are semi faded and looking a little dirty. Also starting to wear thin where the main rubs on the shrouds and otherwise looking stretched out.

You might enquire at local lofts or online sails places to get a comparable. To be honest, I don't think you will get better prices. $1500 for mainsail and $350 for jib is pretty good based on the labor involved in making them. The boomless mainsail is important to get right. Sure, a bigger jib might be nice, you do have about 20" of luff you could use that the stock sails don't make use of...but I doubt it'd make much difference. When it comes time, I probably won't make my own since the prices are pretty low and the performance pretty good by my standards. In other words, I don't think I could do better or cheaper.

Then again, your query prompted me to check and you can save about half by ordering from an aftermarket supplier. One such in CA is Slo Sails; they advertise a getaway mainsail for 840 and you get to choose the colors. Of course, it doesn't have the HOBIE along the leach, but can your boat be anything else? http://www.slosailandcanvas.com/mainsai ... om-colors/

New colors are not offered as replacement sails for about a year after we change new boat colors. At that time, we might do a close out, but typically carry then for a few more years if cloth is available.

Not looking for the new 2017 colors as replacements, just wondering if there will be discounts available on the current Seabreeze colors.

So, no. No discount at least for a few years. These are still current inventory for our parts department.

Thanks Matt -

How about the older colors. I don't suppose the previous generation to the Seabreeze is available anywhere (don't know the names of the previous gen color sails). Probably stopped making those years ago. I'd like to get new and don't want to go aftermarket. I want to stick with Hobie brand sails. I always liked the Red/Yellow/Blue. That sail always seemed to pop - really bright.

I went aftermarket on the front tramp and regretted it. It only lasted about 3-4 years before the seems gave out. Went with Hobie brand for replacing the main tramp just this past season since the original lasted 14 years.

We do have some "Spirit" mains in stock. Contact your dealer if you are interested for pricing. It is about $100 less right now.

Looking for a lightly used Getaway main. Anyone have any leads? Need it ASAP in Maryland.

I have the original main and jib from my 2002. It's the Blue/red/purple sail. It's semi faded and showing it's age but it still works fine. One small tear was repaired about 7 years ago. If interested, I can find some pictures. $300 shipped for the set.

Look in the sailboat classifieds on this forum. There's a rental place in Miami that evidently swaps out all the Getaway software for their own custom stuff. Looks like a great price for new stuff.

Sails are easy to make, but also easy to mess up. I like the shape of the Hobie stock sails. So much so that I'll probably get replacements from Hobie-well, the mainsail anyway; I will probably make my own jibs since it should be replaced every season or every other season if you want to maintain good performance (plus the stock hobie jib is about 20" shorter in the luff than it could be). The main will probably be good for 4-5 years. The off market mainsail photos I've seen have the clew fitting oriented differently than the Hobie...again, the photos look like they will incorrectly sheet the main no matter which hole you use and won't allow you to pick the right hole for the conditions. Of course, usually if you get a sail and you aren't happy, the sailmaker will fix it or make you a new one. After all, their name is on the sail and your "word of mouth advertising" goes a long way toward future sales.
