It is now time to prep my getaway for a long winters nap. Any advice! It will be stored in a garage in Maine. I am concerned about sail storage. I do not have any evidence of mice but with my luck the sail would prove to be a magnet. What is best for the standing rigging and hulls. Should I remove the tramps? Any advice would be welcome. I thoroughly enjoyed the boat and can't wait untill next spring.

Storage...

I don't have to deal with snow down here is Southern California :) ...

Tramps off is a good idea for sure. You have to be sure there is nowhere that water can collect and then freeze. The expansion of the freezing water can crack even a mast extrusion. Be sure there isn't any water in the mast, coolers and inside the hull keels if possible.

Be sure the sails are dry. Mice? That would be a drag.

Like mat said, take the tramp off. Also, vinyl gets brittle when it gets cold. I would try to store it in your house or garage. Roll it, do not fold it. If you can, take the standing rigging indoors as well. Water freezing in between the strands isn't the best thing for them. This is not necessary (actually more nurotic, really). I usually leave mine loosly coiled on the boat.

I would also suggest bringing in the running rigging as well. Leave your drain plugs open.

I did live in New England so I am used to the cold winters. This will be my first winter in the warm "Southern" part of the country.

Before I built my cat-barn, I disasembled my H16 every winter for storage in the garage. To maximum space usage, I hung the hulls on the wall using strap material. Here is a photo of it.
