Hi Guys, Just got my new getaway home and I am looking for advice on initial mast rake settings. The dealer said to just play with it. I am looking for experience to shorten my playing time, and get on with the fun. He suggested putting the mast side shrouds in the third hole down from the top of the chain plate and tensioning the forestay so that all is taught. Average winds here are 15 to 20 mph and fairly steady. Initially I plan to limit myself to 10 to 15 mph until I get a little experience. So if you have kept notes, about how much rake do you use in 5 to 15 mph and how much in 10 to 20 mph? My experience has all been monohull and I am looking forward to blowing past the mono's the same way the cats used to blow by me. LOL Thanks, Randy Ashley 2006 Getaway |

when I'm in 5-15 I use either the 2nd or 3rd hole down on the shroud plate. when i'm in 15-25 and alone, I pin the forestay in the last hole, allowing maximum rake and then am usually able to tighten the shrouds down to the bottom. If I've got a crew for that wind then i let the shrouds out to maybe 2nd or 3rd from the bottom. I'm still not completely sure which hole on the main clew to use for what kind of wind and what kind of rake. if anyone knows then please enlighten me. |

I have the fore stay on the 2nd to tightest hole and the mainstays on the 3rd from the loosest. This is actually the least rake I can get and still have it rigged fairly tight. |

Randy: There was a site from a guy in Okla I think that had a lot of tips on the Getaway. Spinnaker and he even used two tiller extension of keep from having to switch it. Does this ring a bell with anyone. I can't find it doing a Google search. Doug |

That's it. Thought he had some good idea that might help you? How did the wheels work on the Getaway? You are a lot heavier than the 14. Just curious. Doug |

I just ordered a set for my getaway. Wheels will be in Tuesday, and I will build them up on Wednesday. If the 8 inch wide wheels are not enough, I will add two more wheels. I will let you know after I give em a try on the getaway. Randy |

I like to minimize the weather helm on my Getaway. In my experience the further forward the mast the better, so, I try to take up the forestay as much as possible. Mind you, this is for Lake Huron which has high wind and swell and I don't derig every day. Also, be aware that you can expect quite a bit of stretch in all your stays during the first season. |

the "tightest" is the pin hole closest to the tramp correct?? that will pull the mast more upright... |
