I really like the Spinlock EA/2000S tiller extension. Most likely an overkill and terribly expensive. Any other suggestions??

I used a 4' to 8' twistlock telescopic boat hook handle. A lot of people use just a telescopic painters pole, but I figure the boat hook is a little sturdier and designed for the water. its easy enough to remove the hardware from the end of the fiberglass tiller and attach it to the boat hook handle with a couple of stainless nylon lock nuts and bolts.

if you are not handy enough to do that, then I'd just get the aluminum extension handle from Hobie. its in the hobie accessory catalogue.
Mine was $20 vs $57 plus shipping for the hobie extension. After that I think you are into $150 plus for a HotStick.

A bunch of people will tell you its not legal for racing because it is conductive for electricity. if you are not a racer, its not an issue. if you like to sail in thunderstorms, then it may be an issue.

Other options with a 'D' shaped grip? I've used this style for long I'm lost without this feature. Nope, don't tend to sail in T-storms...actually try to avoid them like the plague!!!

Spinlock EA/2000S tiller extension.

The Asymmetric grip improves helming performance in three ways:

More feedback - for accurate and precise control
More mobility - maintains the best helming position for optimum trim and visibility
Less fatigue - correct helming position reduces back pain and improves concentration

Asymmetric grip fits the hand and supports the wrist on or off the wind
Two handed helming mode lets the arms relax
into a more comfortable, elbows-down position
Push-button adjustment with Torlon™ ball locking mechanism
Strongly engineered stainless steel swivel joint for precise control
Removable fast pin for easy stowage
Integral shock absorber

Closed: 1350mm (53 5/32") Extended: 2000mm (78 3/8")

Hello All,

Tiller extension or hiking stick - I needed to pruchase a new one this summer and went to Murray's Sports. With their help I bought the fiberglass hiking stick, part no.: FX04, $155. At first I was going with the aluminum stick and was told that it wouldn't work if it receive at dings, so I went with the fiberglass. I then went to Outdoor World (Bass Pro Shop) and bought the XPS Pro Wrap and covered the upper 18" (below the padded handle) on the stick (part no.: 19-350-750-00, $5.99). It the best thing, good grip even when wet.

The Spinlock D handle stick looks nice until you need to tack; the D handle looks like alot to pass around the main sheet.

Hope this helps, enjoy the water!

I like XPS Pro Wrap idea!!! Might use that on my kid's Hobie Bravos.

The Arriba FX4 Hot Stick is still on my list. Can the cork ball be wrapped with the Pro Wrap?
