Post subject:  Jib zipper

I will need a new jib in a few months and I am considering adding a zipper and jib halyard, so that the jib can be removed with the mast up. The boat will be stored with the mast up on the trailer year round and I have been told that the snorkel moving back and forth in the wind, over a long period of time, can rub the jib enough to actually ruin it. I don't know if this is true or not, but I don't want to find out the hard way.

I wonder if anyone here has had trouble with the snorkel doing damage to the jib and has anyone made these modifications to their jib and what are the pros and cons of doing it.

I have had mine in mast up storage for the past three summers with the snorkel and have not notice any damage from rubing.

Thanks for the input Scott. Do you leave the jib sheets attached, or do you pull them off of the boat.

I keep them on the boat and secure the mast with them. They are secured around the cleets on the mast then I use the cam cleets to tighten them. I keep my rigging tight and the sheets help keep the mast from rotating in the wind.

I do take the main sheet, blocks and rudders off the boat.
