Post subject:  new style rudders

I discovered this weekend that with a fair bit of wind my rudders will not stay in the down position. Yes they are going all the way down and locking in the little notches. Yes I have tried to tighten the bolt to put a little more tension on the plastic locking tabs, none of this worked. Is there some kind of spring kit to add a little pressure to the outside of the plastic piece to more firmly hold the tabs in place? What is the cost to replace the plastic rudder holders? Has anyone else have any ideas?

I had the same problem last week but just a tightening of the nut and bolt worked for me.

i was reading about tuning rudders and remember reading that if one adjusts the rudder's rake one should check/adjust the kick up tensioner spring. i am pretty new to all of this so i can't say if the Getaway has the spring tensioner but it seems according to previous post that it may have.

I had the same problem, and decided to replace the cams, as I could see they were worn, and were hardly moving. When I got them out (had to drill out the rivets - use a 5/16th bit by the way) I found that the plungers were sheared in half and had jammed the cams altogether.

Interestingly, the tiller bar still locked down ok, and the rudders kicked up properly when I hit sand, but they would never stay locked down while moving.
