I'd be afraid of a side breeze when halfway up. That mast is heavy and you have no leverage from the base.
Edit: BUT, it should be easy enough to add some stabilizing lines attached to the mast track (hauled up with a slug) with the other end secured to the bench seat post at about the same height as the mast ball--that way it will stay snug since it is in plane throughout the lift.
