Hi all,

In my continued quest to find a used Hobie Getaway, I've come across a boat 400 miles away that sounds pretty good, other than the following:

At one point the boat had a Cheetah motor mount riveted to the rear crossbar. That has been removed - is that likely to compromise the crossbar?

The one that really has me scratching my head: a previous owner painted the waterline and below on the hulls. Could that be an indication of some sort of problem?

I'm told the hulls do not take on water.

Thanks in advance - I'm just trying to rule out obvious showstoppers before committing to a very long round trip.

A lot of folks add the cheetah motor mount. I've never heard of the crossbar failing. Your much more likely to see failures in the hulls, so check for cracks where the cross bard meets the hulls and around the transform, (where the rudder mounts to the hull).

I've never seen paint on the Getaway hulls. They are plastic, the kind you cannot repair via plastic welding and any repair would be obvious on inspection so detailed photos might be revealing.

Maybe the boat was left moored in the water and it was some sort of antifouling paint??
