Are there many out there that sail without the front trampoline on their Getaways? I assume they're not strictly necessary and seems a lot less likely to pitchpole on downwind runs in steep swell or going through surf without it, right? Makes jib furler basically unreachable but can't remember the last time I needed to access that while underway.

I replaced my hobie trampoline with one from SLO Sail when it was getting old, but the replacement definitely seems to be more prone to catching water as the fabric seems to closely match what you'd find on a kid's backyard trampoline. Anyone have any recommendations on trampolines that are a lot more open, something closer to a loose netting on a large cat that I could use in these types of scenarios?

Good morning
Yes, I sail all the time without my front tramp, I also don't use the wings or the big float, I'm about to put the smaller float on though. I sail my boat using the trapeze as well. As far as no front tramp the boat performs much better in my opinion and access to the jib furler isn't necessary, although you need to secure the furling line to the tramp otherwise it ends up in the water. But yeah, no problems without the front tramp. Happy sailing!

Tasmania's only Getaway sailor.

Thanks Desmond for the reply, good to know! I'll have to give it a go next time I'm out in steep swell!

Good point on jib furling line. I actually got sick of it coming across middle of front trampoline and flaky V-cleat, so I ended up routing it around left side of trampoline and through a proper cam cleat, so shouldn't be a problem without front trampoline.

Thanks again!
