I was putting the Getaway together for the season and I was wondering why the Cheeta Mount tube is so long? I'll have to take a closer look to see if it can be shortened to reduce the stress on the mount. I only flip the engine up while sailing, I don't raise the mount itself.

It has to be long enough to not interfere with the tillers and tiller crossbar, so try full steering range before shortening the mount shaft.

I heard back from Cheata, they make it that length so when the mount and engine are raised, it keeps the prop out of the water. Since I only tilt the engine, I think I can get away with shortening the tube. But then again, who has suffered a mount failure?

With your engine tilted up.

I think you will find that your steering range of motion might be reduced by hitting the engine? As you turn... the tiller crossbar moves aft as much as a foot or more.

I found I couldn't raise the Cheeta and leave the motor down or it bounces. So I bungeed the Cheeta arm down, tip the motor up, and strap it sideways.

Hope the picture loads, but i WOULD NOT shorten the motor mount if you plan on using
A yamaha 2.5 outboard. As Matt said, the tiller crossbar will hit the motor when you use the tiller to change direction. The motor mount length is just right for the yamaha outboard, I cannot speak for a torqueedo motor though.

Thanks for posting the picture of the Cheeta and your Yamaha. I am considering mounting a Suzuki similar to your mount but was wondering about the angle of the Cheeta on the aft crossbar. Did you have to change the angle on the mount to compensate for the weight of the engine or did you mount it as recommended from Cheetah?

I appreciate your response.
