I've ordered a 2017 Getaway, the boat is in stock...just waiting on the spinnaker kit to arrive and be installed by the dealer. Has anyone else pulled the trigger on a 2017? |

Last week I ended my search for the proper boat and ordered a 2017 Getaway from my local dealer. |

Rob, I am still waiting on my Getaway to arrive. Did you take possession of your Getaway? Have you had a chance to take her sailing and if so what are your first impressions of how she sails? Scott |

The boat is in stock and the spin kit just arrived. I'll have to zoom to Toronto some time next week to pick it up. |

The new Getaway is now at the cottage. Spent a bit of time at the dealer to see how the spinnaker kit is set up. I took lots of pictures for a trouble free install of the lines, etc. |

I believe there are some images of Getaways flying Hobie spinnakers in other spinnaker threads here on the forum. If I come across them again, I'll post the links. |

No offense, but you can fit a spin to your Getaway for 1/3 the cost of the Hobie Kit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1WnOryirzM You can get a new spin made via "supersailmakers" who is in FL for $530 (I just got a quote)...18' luff; 16' leach; 12' foot; and SMG of 9.5' with three grommets built in for snuffing. You can make a snuffer ring by bending plastic conduit with a heat gun and attaching a roll of cloth for the tube. You will need a Ronstan swivel ($90) to attach above the jib hound. You will need a block for the halyard ($30). You will need two ratchet blocks ($150) for attaching to the rear seat posts. You will need a supply of line for attaching the snuff points ($5); you will need 50 feet of line for the sheets ($30); you will need 40 feet of line for the halyard ($30). You'll need a short line for the guy. Plus, this system is MUCH simpler to use. |

I prefer the Hobie designed spinkit. |

That's OK with me. I just prefer to design a spin for the boat I sail(ed), not repurpose a kit made for a different boat (I also like to save money). And, I don't like having to set up a sprit and take it down before and after each sail. Also, since I don't trust the comptip; this spin is less stress on the mast and less weight. I also like to make colorful spinnakers. I suppose if you are intending to participate in Hobie regattas with a Getaway-the hobie kit would be the way to go. Like I said, it is OK to do with your boat what you want to do with your boat--it is your boat after all. I'm happy to have sailed a Getaway and happier to have sold it so I can get a trimaran. |

Does the new spinaker Kit match the new sail colors? |

I don't know but I got the yellow spinnaker so it should work nicely. |

That's a nice looking chute! And yeah, much simpler. It adds half an hour to my setup when I put on my sprit and chute. |

At that point your sacrificing a lot of performance for ease. I do have days where I don't bother with the spinnaker cause I'm feeling lazy, but then I always wish I had put it on. |
