Another rookie question. (I hope I don't get fired of the forum :)) What is exactly the purpose of the budgie called Tangle preventer? Is it only for keeping purposes or has to be installed while sailing. See minute 4:42 of the rigging video.

Thank you!!

The tangle preventer is pretty much useless on a Getaway since we don't have a jib that overlaps the mast. I keep it on and use it to attach my camcorder to the mast sometimes or to bungie the main halyard coils to keep them in one spot. I also find it useful to hang my wet garments from when the mast is down and my boat is in the side yard :)

The only thing it did for me is tripping people who wanted to get onto the front tramp, so I took it out. As said before, it is pretty much useless, and I share that opinion (I don't know if anyone has a different one)

It keeps the jib sheets from tangling with the mast base. Sometime would get hooked on the step pin's ring ding too.

It is functional, but certainly not required. You just may see a sheet hooked to the base at some point without it. Not good when you are mid tack and can't release the sheets.
