Which one goes fastest ?
By how much (approximately) ?
Do you set it once and forget it or move the hole while sailing ?
(The middle one on my used 2004 seems like the one most used = worn. )
Any tips would be appreciated !!!!
THANKS !!!

Depends on wind speed. You rig further Forward for higher winds (flattens the sail). More Aft for lighter wind (powers up the sail).

Depends on the mast rake, so there is not fixed guide on it.

Isn't it the other way? Further forward flattens the sail? Further aft allows more draft in the sail? Or am I doing it backwards?

THANKS !
So in layman's terms, at any given wind speed (and I never mess with the rake) if I wanted to go faster I should go fore or aft on the 5 holes in the sail?
Thanks Again !!!!

Depends on wind speed.

In higher winds you need to flatten the sail for better performance (Move the blocks forward).

In lighter winds you want a full shape to the sail (Move the blocks aft)

Think of old slow cargo airplanes... thick air foils.

Fast fighter jets... thinner foils.

I think of it more in terms of twist instead of camber control. With the mainsail cleated forward, you are pulling more aft on the foot (flattening the foot, like Matt said) but also, the leach can twist off. Cleated aft and the leach is firm. I pretty much always had it aft with two sailing (400 pounds of people) and used the traveler to depower (up to about 25 kts windspeed). Single handed I was more cautious and would only use the aft hole when winds were light. I suspect there were times when boatspeed suffered because of hole selection, but it is something you can't easily change while sailing in big wind.

I don't think the clew holes did that much with camber in the main...that was more a function of mainsheet tension and mast bend...when I looked up to check the sail it was pretty much always massively powerful whichever hole I used. I did like the sail shape on the Getaway. :P
