2010 Getaway Main Tramp repair

Went out on the Getaway last weekend and I must say by the end of the day my knees were a bit raw from the main tramp. Nothing like the old vinyl on my H16.

The PO left the Cat out in the sun 24/7 for 7 years, so I know I will need to replace it but has hoping to get a few more months out of it.

I just replaced the front tramp and now I see there is a small tear in the main tramp near one of the grommets.

Anyone have a fix for this. Taking the tramp out stitching it up and with a piece of material underneath it was my first thought.

That would be my advice. A sail loft or upholstery shop can do that easily.

Certainly that would be an option. I would probably unlace the tramp and use my handistitcher to sew it closed since it is so small a tear and then apply an aggressive adhesive patch from inside the flap. This stuff might work. https://www.amazon.com/Camco-42613-Awni ... B004XNQLB2

Based on how weathered the material looks (and it will probably develop more rips along the edges near the boltropes), you might also want to recoat it with some vinyl paint made for canvas seats on boats...http://www.overtons.com/modperl/product ... i?i=787765 I didn't see our color, so you might end up with a "fashion statement".

Wow, got my tramp off today and had bought a bunch of things from Amazon to fix it only to find out nothing is going to work.

If you look at the picture that tear is right next to the eyelet and that eyelet has been punched thru what seems to be a heat welded seam.

No needle is going thru that. It's almost like a thick plastic.

My only thought now (other than ordering a new tramp - which I plan on doing) is to glue some 2" web strapping I bought from Amazon down the entire length of the tramp up against the eyelets.

The questions is.... what would be the best glue to use??? It would need to be strong and the ability to weld to materials together.

Any thoughts out there???

That's what an awl is made for. I use a speedistitcher which is available at West Marine for way too much money ($40). You can get them on eBay for about 15.

I don't think I can even get an awl thru there. It's really thick and stiff with age.

I can try and see if it works with the awl but would also like to do the gluing of the strap.

Any thoughts on type of glue?

In my experience, glues don't work well on fabric in a wet marine environment. Better take it off and take to a canvas guy--or just go ahead and get new. If you just want to keep from falling through, you could add two more grommets and lace (but you would still have to reinforce the spots where you'll put the grommets).

I would try a good super glue. Thin first. It will soak into the stands like a sponge, then go over that with thick to fill in. I do a lot of fiberglass repairs like this. I think it would hold for a good amount of time. Steve C.
