Hi, gang. I'm a newbie.

I'm looking at an '08 Getaway, and based on some other posts and some of my own observations, I'm concerned about hull cracks developing.

Should I listen to my common sense that's telling me that a 10+ y/o boat that has likely been stored outside (NJ, salt-water environment) is at higher risk of cracking? Possibly 'imminent' threat?

Age is one component, but salt air probably isn't an issue. Heat and cold cycles, exposure to UV, repetitive stress. A plastics engineer I am not, but plastic offgassing and brittle failure are usually associated with temperatures. I'd be less worried about a boat from NJ than FL provided the hulls were dry in the cold winters. A hull under a tarp with the boat disassembled will likely be more sound than one stored on the trailer and "ready to go".

I have a 2004 Getaway in Ohio that the hulls are all good. The boat is stored in the garage when not out sailing so I am sure that helps.
