Post subject:  New Mast Raising System

Just received the new Hobie catalog and they have a mast raising system, page 35, specifically for the Getaway. Has anyone tried it yet?

Man new catalogs out already, wish I had one......However I do know what system you are talking about, I have not used on yet, but Hobie did make it for the getaway I can not imagine it not working EXACTLY like they said it should!

Post subject:  Mast Stepper III

That is the Mast stepper III

We don't have it available yet, as noted in the catalog. Should be ready in early summer 2007.

Similar to the ez step, but better. There is a molded piece that attaches to the mast near the base, then the pole is attached. The molded piece fits the side shape of the Getaway mast and is secure so will hold the pole upright while you rig the rest of the bridle lines. This also holds the mast in rotation as required. Like the 21 Sport cruiser stepper, the top end attaches below the furler, so you leave that all rigged to the forestay and attach the bridle wires when stepped. Will also allow you to leave the rig tight, so no need to loosen a shroud and retighten when stepped again.

How fast can I get one!?! I really struggle getting the mast up by myself. I want to order one NOW! One more reason to sail more often. Some days we don't sail because I just don't feel up to lifting the mast. Good job by Hobie for feeling a need.

give your dealer a call and see if they can go ahead and place an order for you, this way Hobie can ship that backorder asap!

Post subject:  Delivery Date for Mast Stepper III

Is there a date yet on when the dealers will have them and how hard will it be to ship to my home, as dealers are quite a ways away? Thanks Jim

Post subject:  When

As per the note in the description in the catalog "Summer 2007"...

Likely July before these are available.

OK,... it's July. I would really like to know how well these things work. Currently,.. raising the mast is one of big reasons why I am thinking about going to a different boat. Getting the mast up safe and quick means a lot. My rig and launch time would be cut down and I wouldn't rely on having to take someone else along to go sailing when ever I could go. I'd be on the water everyday if I didn't need to eat,.....and drink :!:

There's still a lot of July left. I don't think the new steppers have shipped yet. IIRC, Matt told me last week that it would probably be the middle to end of the month before they were available. But I could be thinking about some other new item.

Post subject:  solo stepping mast technique?

Could someone describe a safe and effective way to step a getaway mast by themselves? I have an ez stepper for 16s and 18s. I don't have trap wires on the getaway. My thoughts would be to modify the ez step as for a 17 and add a pair of trap wires only for stepping solo. Any easier ways??
Thanks, Bill
p.s. Matt, thanks for the quick service on the backrest.
