I'm picking up my new Getaway on Tuesday. :D The air temp is great but the water is cold on the inland lake that I'll be sailing. Although I am not a newbie to sailing, I am used to dingy racing and F boats (Corsair 27) and have no experience with cats.

How stable is the Getaway? My friend and I hope to test it next week but don't really want to go swimming (yet). Under what conditions will the Getaway flip? Assuming I don't push it and keep both hulls in the water, is it fairly stable when tacking?

I'm trying to avoid a cold here.

I find the getaway to be pretty stable. Way more stable than my 16 was. In any wind over about 15mph you need to be a little careful, especially when your on a broad reach, I find the boat is more susceptible to pitchpoling than going over sideways. I find you really have to use the main-sheet traveller on broad reaches, and keep the crew weight well back. Close hauled or on a reach I find the getaway very predictable and flying a hull not as much of a capsize concern as the 16 was. Again If you don't feel comfortable just ease the main out to power down slightly.
