Hey California Getaway guys. Would you like to have a Getaway funsail here in Santa Cruz? I am trying to get an event together for June. Either the 14th and 15th or the 21st, 22nd. We're trying to get together a few basic classes like, rigging, beginning racing, safety etc.

Would you guys be interested? What dates would work better?

I appear to available for both.

I am not sure I understand your definition of a "Fun Sail". Who will be giving / taking the classes?

Basically where a bunch of sailors get together and sail for fun. It's really good for all Hobie sailors to get together sometimes and share experiences and tips, and it's really cool to tune up with other boats on the water. It's completely non-competitive. We'll have a BBQ and a couple of classes that will hopefully improve everyone's sailing. One thing I get asked often is to explain the flag and timing sequence for starts. This will be covered.

The classes will be taught by experienced sailors in Div 3. As an example, I just got an email back from Ken Nelson offering help. He just got done smoking everyone at midwinters west. We have a lot of talent here in Div3!!

Sounds great. I am available on the 14th and 15th. Both Denise and I would get a lot out of it.

Jeremy,

How about a fun race for all rotomolded hobies ?
I'm not sure about basic classes per say, as boat owners should know about basic rigging by now, but I am all for a fun day on the water, and learn a few tips about our boats along the way.
In addition, we should stop and all have a drink somewhere near the mile bouee, just to show all those fiberglass boats why we like to have the cooler storage in our hulls !

Regarding the dates, any sunday is fine.

Christophe.

Absolutely! Everyone is welcome. I wanted t stress it to the Getaway guys because I know there are a bunch of them in Norcal. I just never see the majority of them.

Jeremy,
I think the more the merrier!! The safety part seems like a good idea, things like basic VHF / chart etc would be helpful in the morning when the wind is not yet up. Also, I think the rigging would be cool coming from people in the know. We can all get our boat rigged, but rigged to make them perform at their best under different conditions is a whole different matter. Best of all, bringing together people with like minds is always cool,
No worries
Paul

I've had my Bravo for a few months and have been wanting to try the delta, but didn't know where to put in, how to keep from getting lost, whether the tidal currents and winds would catch me out, etc. I'd be really interested in crewing for someone with experience there...anyone let me know if you could use a hand.

I recently returned from Mexico where I've been sailing a new Getaway since January. It's been great fun but a learning experience: dumped once.

Now, I am back in the bay area(near Palo Alto) until December. I'd like to find some crew opportunities so I can keep sailing and improve my skills.
Thanks

Bill (wcvette),

Are you still sailing the Delta?

I moved up to Oakley and now keep my boat at Lauritzen's.

Would be great to see another cat out on the water.
