All,

It seems that I always need 420 pounds to righten the getaway.... which means I can't sail the getaway alone (I am 190lb)... not even with my 150 lb son, nor with my 110 lb daughter... We end up always needing to be 3+ people?

I see a lot of Hobie 16 videos on the bag system, but none on getaway.

Does anyone have a proven system to righten getaway solo with a bag system? Where do you hook the bag? What is the minimum weight you need to righten the getaway?

thank you,

Paolo

Take a look at this: https://www.hobie.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=60438&hilit=righting+board

Below is a video of righting a Getaway solo using the righting pole. There are also some details about building the pole further down in the above series of posts.

Shroud Extenders. I have them on my 21SC and can easily right the boat with 320lbs.

Have the mast at a 45 degree angle into the wind with the wind hitting the front of the mast. Even a very light wind will get under the sail. Practice in a out of the way area. You will get dialed in.
With 1 kid will be easy, by your self should work ok as long as you have the mast positioned good.

I don't understand. I'm 200# and can right the boat myself. I once capsized with my wife, and she did most of the work herself, I don't think I loaded more than 50# on the righting line. And she's pretty little.
I use the supplied righting line, no righting pole.

Don't have a video but I'm 190 #, as as long as I have the mast into the wind so the wind gets under the sail it's pretty easy.

I tie it to the mast base stud. The bag is strapped on the front tramp, when capsized, I throw it over the hull in the air.
