Carrying paddles

For our safety, we want to be able to carry two paddles. We have paddles we can use that we also use for our SUPs. My question is about securing them so they are available when we need them, but out of the way the rest of the time. I was thinking of mounting a clamp on the underside of the wing, one paddle under one wing, the other paddle under the other wing. Is it OK to screw a screw into the bottom of the wing?

Does anyone have any other ideas how I could do this, or did I magically come up with the best already?

Most Hobie sailors tie the paddle to the lacing of the tramp, or in your case, the wings.
Some folks use a bungee.

No need to drill, this will weaken the wing structure.

If yo want to create a 'fitting', I suggest you lash some Dyneema to the wings, and use that instead of drilling.

Hobie used to sell a telescoping paddle. If trimmed down slightly, it would fit through the 6” porthole opening on a Hobie 18. I imagine that something similar could be done on a Getaway. Always better to stow items inside the hull if that’s an option.

I carry a SUP paddle under each wing, tucked under the bungees holding the wing covers.
I carried a regular paddle, but the SUP paddle lets you sit straddling the wing and paddle.

Don't use them much, I have a motor. But once in a while motors can fail!

Dorienc is right, the wing covers are attached with a long bungee cord. I just tuck both ends of the paddle under strands of the bungee. They've been there for years, and I have yet to use them

I have also carried fishing poles under the wings by 'threading' them through the bungie underneath the wing. We have some favorite coves on our lake to sail to on light wind days where we can just heave to and drop in a line.

I keep a paddle on the front spreader, with a bungee spiraled around it. Very easy and convenient.
