Just purchased a 1996 Classic Wave. Everything on the boat looks pretty good, however the tiller crossbar is very sloppy. Rubber elbow connectors. Can anyone guide me to what parts I need to upgrade the connectors? I'm really not sure what parts I'm looking for! Thanks very much. My first Hobie and I love it!

Hobie knew you were coming! Wave part 1957. I seem to remember that I had to cut piece off the end of the tiller connector to get the rudders to align perfectly. I filled in the extra holes with epoxy.

Great thanks. Do you know where I could get 1957 in Canada? Can I use my existing tiller bar?

I just ordered one from Fogh Marine. By phone, their website is being funky just now. As long as you are in the centre of the none universe, the GTA (Greater Toronto Area), or Ottawa, like me.

Hobie has a dealer finder someplace, I've used it. You have to be a touch careful since there are several kinds of Hobie dealers: paddle boards, rotomolded boats, and sailboats, something like that.

I don't know if you can use your tendon style tiller connector. I will when my kit arrives. The last time I did this there was significant damage to the boat and I had to use a Hobie 18 tiller connector and cut it down.

Good luck! To both of us.

Charles

The original rubber elbows used a shorter tiller crossbar. The kit 1954 has a longer tiller crossbar included.

The inside diameter of the rudder arm is slightly too small for the new tiller connectors...what's up with that?
