Post subject: | ? Wave/Getaway purchase-- advice |
I would greatly appreciate some advice. I used to sail a sunfish. I am 56 and own a small cottage on a lake in Maine (3/4 x 8 mile). My waterski days are over (bad knee) and my wife and I would like some sailing fun (active not passive). Our total weight is about 300 lbs. I might sail solo. We might have a third adult on the boat. I would like to leave the boat moored for the summer. Recently on vacation in Mexico we easily sailed a Wave (no jib) in moderate wind and enjoyed it. I dont want to quickly outgrow the boat but also don't want to overbuy and get myself in trouble. I know that a purchase is always a compromise. Many thanks, Wells |

Go with the Getaway great boat and my son and I break 300lbs easy, I think the wave would seem slow. Neville |

I would also recommend that you go with the Getaway. We have owned both and think for your situation, the Getaway is the way to go. We frequently are out with 3 adults. |

Hi all...I am in the same situation,,I currently have a Hunter146, but after sailing the wave in the islands, I'll never sail a mono again... i have a wife (enjoys sailing) and 2 little girls (3yr old and a 10mo old) I mostly sail solo ( I am an experienced sailor) but will bring the wife and 3 yr old out (10 mo old too small now)...i am able to leave the boat rigged on the beach...should i go with the the wave or getaway? 90% of my sailing is solo,,,i did have a blast on the wave |

If you would like to take out more than one person on your boat, get the Getaway. It can be sailed solo (I sail my H18 solo frequently and I soloed my H16 all the time) quite easily. Another big advantage is you will have room for your girls. That's my 2 cents... Good luck with your purchase |
