hammond was out on Mission Bay a couple weeks ago sailing his Wave... SMOKIN! He has a Hobie 20 and a Wave that he keeps at Mission Bay YC. When it blows hard... its time to pull out the Wave!

Anyone tell you you can't fly a hull on a Wave... is WRONG!

One of the fun things to do on a day like this is try and stuff the bow as deep as you can and recover!

Whoo Hoo ~~~ Go Mikey Go!!!!

Looks a bit better than the conditions we had on Memorial day - there's nothing better than a Hobie Wave in a good breeze... Awesome shots man~ :)

Great shots and great fun!

How do you get that much wind with flat water?

The wind was blowing 15-20 with big gusts. The water is smooth because it's blowing off the beach and I was less than 100 feet off the shore. The most difficult part is not seeing the gust on the water. By the way, the photos were taken by Steve Ross from sailing supply in San Diego. Some may remember Steve from Ullman in San Diego or from his Hobie 21 prosail days.

Ahh, that is to live for with the Wave!

I have to ask. In the last pic, did you? Recover, that is? That is a long, long way down.

I'm sure he did... better than I one day. I thought... step forward and REALLY stuff it! I was in front of the forestay before I knew what hit me.

I did recover, lots of gravity help on the rear corner of the boat. ;-)

Earlier in the day I had an unintentional high power pitchpole. It was blowing harder and I was hit by the back side of the puff so as I sheeted out I was powering up. I ended up being thrown forward hard enough that I ripped the hiking strap off the tramp. The last thing I saw before I hit the water was the tramp verticle with both rudders sticking up in the air. Good times.
