on the outside. I just noticed the two nylon screws on the port side are missing.

Is this a mounting point for the trapeze or something? Or vents? :?:

I noticed those holes when I bought my Wave also, and asked the same thing. It turns out that the hulls are manufactured symetrical, so each can be either starbord or port. For boats which are rigged for a jib, a bracket is attached there on the inner side of the hull to hold the jib cleat. The screw holes on the outter side of the hulls are not used. The nylon caps are just fillers.

I challenged readers to come up with good uses for them. Any ideas?

Oarlocks.

See the "Rowing a Wave" thread at viewtopic.php?f=24&t=9842&hilit=rowing

Still works after three years of use (including kids using the oars).
