I'm 165 pounds and have been wondering about options for reefing. Where I sail it's not uncommon to get sustained winds up to 25 knots, which is a handful even in the Wave, particularly if you're doing some distance rather than racing around the cans.
Rather than putting a zip in the sail, I'm thinking of just getting a sailmaker to put some reinforced eyelets about a third of the way up from the foot of the sail, then to reef just tightly roll the bottom third of the sail, lash this tightly, and hook the mainsheet onto the reduced main. Just an idea at present, but I'll post pics if I go through with it.
Has anyone else experimented with reefing the main on the Wave?
