Is there any information about the speed compared to a Hobie 14? The wave with jib installed has nearly the same sq than the 14. I am thinking about if there is a big difference between the two boats, sure the 14 will be faster because of higher mast and non plastic hulls.. ?! Metsche |

2010 Portsmouth Handicaps Hobie 14 - 86.4 Hobie Wave - 92.1 If you sailed for 45 minutes, a typical race duration, the 14 would finish three minutes sooner. About 400 yards. About half a leg. |

...unless it was blowing 20-25 knots, in which case the person sailing the Hobie 14 would be swimming next to their turtled boat, watching the Wave barrel past at *almost* the speed they were doing ) |

That is soo hilarious and true. The 14 is fun in big wind right up to a point. The wave can go bigger for sure. Both are deadly down wind in a big blow though. |

"Both are deadly down wind in a big blow though." They all are. I used to sail a Hobie 21 and turning that top corner is scary. I never thought I'd want a soaking wet overweight middle aged man pressed against me but we both needed to be back in that corner and even then the bows were making "Hobie Smoke". Oh Lord I love racing sailboats! |
