Post subject:  traveler questions

I just bought the wave this week and just realized it doesn't have a traveler. I've only sail a few times in the 90's and it was always on some small catamaran that had a traveler on them. Is it hard to sail without it? Does it depend on wind conditions? Those of you that have it, does is just help with performance with the sail or is it more for ease with sailing? Was it hard to install?

Its not too difficult to install, I think the hardest part was getting the old eye strap off the crossbar. Mostly it helps for sail trim/performance while reaching. Its not a nessicary addition, the boat sails great without it. Keep in mind that the traveler isn't class legal.

I thought it was a bit of a bear to install, in particular the riveting. There was a thread that included install instructions:

It's not legal for racing, I've been told. A majority don't seem to think it's necessary. I kinda like it because it is one more level of control.

hardest part is pulling the rivets, not hard just the hardest part. a good rivet gun goes a LONG way to helping.

I sailed one a few years ago after we installed it for a customer, I mean I have to test it out right, it was a nice added a bit of performance but not a gotta have item just a nice to have.
