I sail in the Gulf, off the beach. When I return to the beach, incoming waves impact the rudders and have 'dented' the black plastic where the rudders strike the gudeons. It takes a minute or two to dismount and either push the boat out of the waves from the stern or pull the boat out using the front cross bar or the forestays. I don't see any way out of this, but thought I'd ask if anyone else has a better method/solution. I've started disconnecting one end of the tiller which allows each rudder to move separately in the wave action. thanx, |

Why not just hang on to the tiller and ride all the way onto the beach instead of stopping short? It's tough on the bottoms but getting a wave across the transom can break all kinds of things (including body parts). Rotomolded Waves are tough boats so it shouldn't be a issue. If you are going to sail in the surf dings, scratches, and broken stuff come with the territory. |

I also sail on the gulf, Surfside Texas. I come in at a 90% angle to the beach all the way through the surf zone, keeping watch on the waves coming in and keeping the weight to the back of the tramp. I stay and keep the "super cargo" on the boat until it is safe to get off usually when the hull drags bottom, and lift the rudders also when they hit the beach, which also may need lowering between sand bars.

Same here. I often come in through small wind waves (maybe 0.5m) and come in perpendicular to the beach, until the rudders kick up. In a good wind I can sail right up onto the sand. That's what sailing a beach cat is all about!

Daytona Beach, same thing. Bring the cat in at 90 degrees to the beach, ride in, rudders kick up, I still keep going till I hit the sand. That is 1/2 the fun of the day right there. Often I'll turn right around and do it again a few times. I never could surf.
