Post subject:  How is a wave different than a hobie 16 in the ocean?
Hey all, another question for you. I'm getting closer to getting my own cat and I've been sailing waves and 16s at my local sailing club. I like the wave because it's roomy, comfortable, and easy to rig. I like the speed of the 16. Much faster than the wave in light wind which is nice. The real decision maker is going to be how the boats ride in the ocean. I plan on doing a lot of ocean sailing and unfortunately I can't take the boats from the sailing club out of the bay. Will there big a big difference in how these two boats handle waves and chop? Is there a strong reason to get one over another based on ocean performance. Right now I'm leaning towards the wave as I value simplicity and comfort over speed. Your thoughts?

I used to sail a Hobie 16 (almost always two-up) and now sail a Wave (solo). For simplicity, for sailing solo, and for heading out in rough water, I would go for the Wave every time. Much easier to manage, and simple to right solo. A little slower than the 16, but I'd prefer to be doing 12 knots all day, than 15 knots for a little while before I turn turtle :lol:

No, it is not. It's more like a Wave that has grown up and become a teenage Getaway.

Thats funny I was just talking to my wife about this. It was good and windy yesterday so I took a hobie 16 out instead of the wave. It took me a good 40 minutes to rig and about 30 to unrig. I love the speed but it takes too long to be worth it. I can get the wave out in 5 minutes. I was thinking they need to make something as bomb proof and stable as the wave but with a little more speed. Sounds like this is it.
