I made this "bowsprit" pole and mounted my GoPro on it. It worked much better than I expected. :D I thought it would be very "shakey".

I used all thread coming down from the bridle to hold the pole from bouncing up. Put a small vertical bolt thru the other end of pole wrapped in a chafing tape so not to scratch the boat and to hold the pole from sliding back. Then shock corded that in place. I used some line going from both bows to behind the camera on the pole to steady the side sway but do not think it did much or was needed.
Some other great ideas  in this thread I'll be thinking of to use too. Thanks.

Looks like an aluminum pole? I didn't see much bounce. Looks like the threaded rod worked well.

Thanks, Jim

Not Aluminum, just a wood dowel actually. It made it easy to drill the angle for the all thread too. I'm tempted to make a longer one.... hmmm

Here is a view from when I mounted the Go Pro to the top of the mast with the Jaws Flex Clamp.
Oh yes I tethered it off too. Don't want to lose that camera!
In the video I flipped on purpose

I'm getting ready to build a floating camera platform. It's hard to tell the shape of your plywood in this photo. Is it teardrop shaped? Does that work well? Did you experiment with other shapes? Or do you think this shape could be improved?

Thanks, Jim,

Thanks, Jim,

Teardrop shape works great! I did not experiment with other shapes. Make sure you have a fin on the bottom.
